Antwerp

On Saturday we took the train out to a city called Antwerp. According to folklore the city got its name from a legend involving a mythical giant called Antigoon who lived near the river. He exacted a toll from those crossing the river, and for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river Scheldt. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo who cut off the giant's own hand and flung it intAlign Centero the river. Hence the name Antwerpen, from Dutch hand werpen—akin to Old English hand and wearpan (= to throw), that has changed to today's warp.

The city was pretty cool. Here are some pictures from the day.

It looks really cold, like the diamond capitol of the world should look! Did you find me one of those? (diamond, that is.) It doesn't look like there are any other tourists around. That must be nice or at least it helps compensate for the cold.
