Summer Camp

This summer I have the privilege of being a camp coach at the Black Diamond Gymnastics Summer Camp in Park City. I started the position with some reservations, but as the weeks roll by I find I am enjoying the position more and more. I love being active everyday and I love going on field trips with the kids. So far we have gotten to visit lots of pools and parks in the Salt Lake area. We have also visited the planetarium and local aviary. Next week is "Olympic Week" and we will be visiting all of the significant Olympic historical locations. Stay tuned for a report....next week!

This was the four year old class I had last week.

These boys are playing a game on the beam.

Keeping 3 and 4 yr olds entertained for four hours can be a challenge. I prefer having them run back and forth on the rod floor imitating different animals. It is funny to watch and it wears the kids out for a few glorious minutes.

Favorite Things

I have finally decided what my favorite thing is about living in
Midway this summer.
Sonic Cream Pie Shakes!

I had my first coconut cream pie shake about three weeks ago with Nelli at the local Sonic. Since then life has not been the same. Eating a coconut cream pie is almost as good as a cruise to the Bahamas for only $2.29. If you haven't experienced one yet I highly recommend that you do. Its the cheapest and most satisfying tropical vacation you'll ever take!

If you don't believe me...check out what these ladies have to say about it.

Hiking Adventure

Last Friday Ben planned our date night. He decided we should go on a hike. Not just any hike though, he wanted to climb this HUGE hill/mountain that sits along the highway between Provo and Midway. Maybe some of you have seen it and wanted to climb it too. We had snowshoed up it together before we were married and Ben thought it would be fun to climb it again during the summer.
Here we are at the top. Notice I still look happy. About thirty minutes later, after Ben insisted we take "another" way down, I stood in a maze of sagebrush and branches. By the time we made it back to the car I was sneezing uncontrollably. The joys of seasonal allergies!

Summer Surprises

Up until about eight days ago Ben and I had been planning on spending the summer in Washington D.C. We had even packed up our apartment and driven our fully-loaded car to Washington D.C.

Prior to starting work in D.C. we went to a family reunion in Midway, Utah. Ben's parents had just finished building a house there.

After hanging out with his family for a week Ben was unexpectedly given an opportunity to take a summer law clerk position with Tesch Law offices in Park City. It seemed like a great opportunity so we decided to stay.

As for me there weren't a whole lot of options in Park City or Heber for an MPA student looking for paid work for 2.5 months very last minute. I was lucky enough to come across an organization looking for help with their summer camp. When they offered me a summer position I was happy to accept. Lets just say I am not complaining about leaving the office work to Ben this summer. I am more than happy to play with kids all summer and work on my tan.
